Orenda / Tiny Tots

  • Recently, USGBC announced its recipients of the 2023 LEED Homes Awards to recognize outstanding projects within the category. Our Orenda project was chosen as one of its top three recipients in the affordable housing category!

The Othello community members worked for years to ensure that re-development on the corner of Othello St. and Martin Luther King would halt the displacement they were seeing in their community. On this full-city block next to the light rail station, in one of the most diverse communities in the U.S., they envisioned a place that reflected the residents of the community and contributed needed, affordable housing and services.

Spectrum Development in partnership with Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, a dentist clinic and Tiny Tots Development Center, took the challenge to create a building that responds to the community’s need for workforce housing, health care and childcare. The community stakeholders were engaged throughout the design process and played a special role in developing the eye-catching mural across the façade over the entry through workshops held with muralist Emily Eisenhart.

ArchEcology was delighted to support the team’s sustainable design efforts by managing the LEED certification. Orenda achieved Gold certification under LEED Homes Multifamily Midrise, and the Tiny Tots Tenant Improvement project achieved LEED Commercial Interiors Silver certification. LEED recognized the affordable housing contribution Orenda makes to the community with an Innovation credit.
